Elegant building built at the beginning of the 20th century (source: Municipality of Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague). Elzéar-Hubert Dansereau settled in Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague as a doctor in 1868. One of his 17 children, Louis-Ernest, settled at 120 rue Principale in 1926 (Gravel, 1996). The Victorian-style Dansereau house served many purposes, serving as a doctor's office, hospital, pharmacy, housing for canal workers, hotel (New Canal Hotel), store, post office, bank and finally a private residence. The first building, covered in brick, constitutes the rear part. The front part was built later as well as an annex in which Olier Dansereau ran a store where they mainly sold clothing. There was also a branch of the Banque Canadienne Nationale and the post office. In 1926, Homer Brière, then owner, sold the property to Joseph Dansereau, a schoolteacher from Montreal, and his son, Polydor Albert, a doctor. The same year, Joseph sold it to Louis Ernest Dansereau. The latter was a tailor and the father of Olier Dansereau. In 1930, Louis Ernest signed a 10-year lease with the Banque Canadienne Nationale. In the 1950s, there were three stores in the heart of the village of Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague: Jalbert et Laberge, Olier Dansereau and Aimé Leboeuf.
